Overall a good pair of shorts. I put them on and they feel really comfortable and the fit was absolutely true to my size. I wear a 34 jean and I ordered 34 shorts and they are perfect. No binding or excess material. They feel rugged enough to withstand anything I do yet stylish enough to wear to a barbecue with a nice shirt and shoes. You won’t be disappointed…. Steve

For those of you deciding between this style and the modern, let me explain the main difference; this one has a bit more space at the legs, the modern is tighter and looks a bit off, if you don’t have the right body type or are used to the style all together. The modern style is for the skinny type, while this is more for the average type or athletic. I personally prefer this style; I’m just under 6′ tall weighing 158 lbs.
Material wise, these are perfect for hot summer days, the waist fits me perfect (31) and the length is right at the knees. All in all, a good pair of shorts that don’t fit too tight or loose.

A little dissapointed because upon searching the “Q&A” section for this product I was under the impression that they would have the work pocket on the side – that little pocket perfect for a cellphone. I own many pairs of these Volcom shorts and all of them have those pockets, these do not. An official response from the vendor when asked if these shorts have a work pocket is “yes.” I was dissapointed to see they actually do not, but they fit good and was just too lazy to return them. So, if you want that pocket, the most perfectly designed pocket for removing the burden of a clunky smart phone in your front or back pocket – look elsewhere.

I’ve been searching for the perfect shorts, and by George, this is it! I’ve had other Volcom’s but my last pair ran large, so I was slightly reluctant, but like the style, quality, and length! Im glad I didn’t order a size down, as these shorts fit true to size. The material is also nice and I expect it to be durable. I’m definitely ordering more in other colors.

This review is for the Chino version of these shorts. I really wanted to give these 5 stars. They look good, the chino fabric quality is nice, and the tailoring and fit is really good. The stitching, seams and front button are high quality. ]They are very well-made shorts with high-end quality. I’d want to buy another pair or two in other colors, but the pockets are not well thought out. The rear pockets are fine, one with a button closure, but the front pockets suck. They are too shallow, with a wide slanted pocket opening. You don’t want to wear these if you carry a cell phone in your pocket. I have just a regular iPhone 6 (not the bigger one) and it almost falls out of the pocket when I sit down. If it is in your pocket while walking, a corner of the phone sticks out. Don’t wear these in a street festival unless you keep your phone in a holster (LOL). The front pockets need to be narrower and deeper.

First off, these shorts fit great. I am 6’2″ 185Lbs (lean and fairly atheletic). My larger hip bones need some room to move around. The ‘relaxed’ fit size 34s work great, and every time I put these shorts on I am pleased to feel the extra room I have. (Apparently most shorts are made for men with stick straight, narrow hips). Some great improvements that these shorts have are reinforced button area (really important) and this really cool ‘secret pouch’ in the bottom of the right pocket that acts as a really good cell phone cradle in my opinion. (I am sure many people out there get annoyed when their phone flips sideways in their pockets.) This pocket totally prevents that.

Fits good. I wear a 34 but even the 36 still doesn’t drop off my waist when I wear them. The 36s are a little baggy tho. I was worried because there’s not much variation with the width, length and height of the shorts but at 6’1 I have no complaints.

My previous 4 pair of “Volcom Firkin Chino Short” did, and I really loved that feature, so I am disappointed to see that missing.
I LOVE everything else about this product! They are my go to shorts and I still haven’t worn out a single pair in years, with heavy daily use.
