Everyone knows Levis denim. These guys created the cool, casual, affordable jean and these shorts are no exception. So why only 3 stars? What gives? Ill tell you.
You see that denim short in the photo above? The one with the right leg that has NO distressing on it what so ever, but somehow has a MASSIVE hole in the left leg? Thats the EXACT short you are going to receive. Good luck trying to pul of your “naturally” distressed look when one half of your shorts look BRAND NEW and on the other side it looks like your brand new puppy went to town for ten minutes chomping on your short. WHY LEVIS!?
These shorts are very well designed, manufactured, and priced. I usually wear a slim or skinny fit 34×34 and these shorts fit PERFECTLY and the denim quality was amazing for the price. But the distressing was so poorly done it was distracting from all the positive attributes.
In summary: If you are into distressing your own shorts, and dont mind a MASSIVE hole on one side, then these shorts may work for you. But then again, if you like distressing your own shorts, why not just go to the salvage store and pick up an older used pair and distress those for a third of the cost? Sorry Levis, just cant recommend these despite the vast amounts of positives.

I bought two pairs: the “Rind” and the “Gummy Bears”(?!). The Gummies fit great. The fabric is a delightfully thin, malleable denim that moves as you do. Being both short and fat, I appreciated this very much. However, the “Rind” shorts were made out of ultra-thick denim which is stiff as a board, leading to some . . . extraordinarily awkward-looking bunching in the crotch as I walked or sat down. I’m in the process of returning those, although I’m keeping the Gummies since they’re just what I’m looking for.
On a whim, I decided to try the distressed “Ricotta” shorts; they haven’t arrived yet, so I’ll update this review when they do. I’m hoping that their fabric is the same (or similar) as used for the Gummies, but we’ll see.
To be fair, the Rind shorts aren’t bad . . . but the fabric’s much too stiff, and I don’t understand why Levi used such drastically different weights of denim for the same shorts-pattern?

These denim shorts are great quality. My only complaint is that they are kinda thin compared to Levi’s full length jeans, but that could be a good thing as these are made for warm weather. I ordered them in black, size 36 waist. I’m 5’7 and 194 lbs. They sit perfectly at my waist. Most 36 jeans fall off my waist and 34 jeans are too tight. These fit like a 35 they are perfect. The length is good, slightly rolled up they are at the top of my knees and rolled down they go slightly below my knees. Most Levi’s jeans I’ve owned had. I stretch to them, but these are slightly stretchy but not too much.

I own many pairs of Levi’s 511 (waist size 34) jeans so I figured buying this pair of shorts would be easy to match the comfort I enjoy already. First pair I sent back due to them fitting a bit small/tight in high thigh area and waist. I compared to all of my other 511s and noticed the seam on the back from the belt to the horizontal seam that runs above the back pockets was almost 1/4 to 1/2 shorter in length, which I could notice when wearing. Also, the inside edge of that horizontal seam was quite rigid and annoying while wearing.
The second pair I received, fit more comfortably, but still has a shorter seam from belt to horizontal belt seam on the back of the shorts. Inside seam is less rigid.

Because of the slim fit advertise, I usually wear a regular size 36 but ordered a 42 as warned in the ad and reviews HOWEVER, they were a true regular fit 42 and were swimming on me. I returned them and got my normal size of 36 and they fit perfectly so order true to size and ignore the heading of the ad, there isn’t anything slim fit about them. I ordered the light purple ones and they look great with a crisp white long sleeve shirt and brown boat shoes for casual summer outings.

Very difficult to review. I bought a pair for $20 and saw the price was $50 later. They are literally cut off jean shorts. When you get them they have a nice fold at the bottom but after you wash them once that goes away. They are very comfortable but are super magnets to all lint and debris. At $20 I’d say I’m ok with them. Pay any more than that and you are better off cutting an old pair of jeans into shorts.

I am surprised by how loose fitting this particular color seems to be. I recently received another pair of 511 shorts in gray and they fit similar to the 511 jeans I have. I also recently ordered Levi’s 505 shorts, which are called regular fit, and even those seem to be a tighter fit than this pair.

The “tears” in it make no damn sense. Granted it’s my fault for not REALLY looking before buying, but I didn’t realize how dumb they look. There’s a open slash right by my ‘nads, then one above my knee, then the other two are “patched” on the inside.
Who’s idea was that?

I purchased these for my husband in black, size 34. They fit him very well. Because of the fact that the hem is raggedy (I know it’s supposed to look that way), and he doesn’t take care of his clothes, it was starting to look really messy, so I took it to the tailor to have it hemmed, which worked out well. Unfortunately, he never wears them anyway because he thinks lint, dog hair, and so forth shows up too easily on black clothing.
