In 1997, set out to build and sell better board shorts for men, women, and children.
Founded right in the heart of the Garment District in New York City, they first sold door-to-door to local surfers, mom and pop surf shops, and a few gift stores at local beaches. A few good years of making waves, always focusing on quality and value, Kanu managed to land on the racks of department stores, sports shops and anywhere swimwear is sold— nationwide.

Love these. I read the reviews so bought size 4 instead of my typical size 6 and they fit perfectly. I am 5’4″, 130lbs. I hiked about 4 miles on a hot and humid day, took a swim and hiked back. They performed beautifully. Super comfy for hiking, great for swimming, dried quickly. Super soft material. Nice little side pocket. The Velcro has a flap so the Velcro doesn’t stick to you when pulling them up. Throw on some heels and you could wear these dowtown!

I am 5’3″, 215 pounds and ordered the XXL in black. These came to the top of the knee on me, which is want I wanted. They are a great fit for me in the waist and hips. No pulling or pinching. the fabric is lightweight, but doesn’t show any lumps and bumps. I hardly knew they were on. I probably could have gotten away with an XL if I wanted a little bit more snug of a fit. I definitely could not have gone any bigger in size.

Women’s board shorts are so hard to find with the length and the material is usually stiff, but these shorts are perfect in every way. First they are stretchy. I have big hips and a small waist so I had to order a 1X and they fit EXACTLY as pictured. My hips measure 47.5 if that helps anyone. I would order these again in every color i like them so much. Perfect for activities, the gym, walking around the zoo and lightweight material that dries super fast!

I love these! These are so comfortable and cool! Wore them on a fishing boat, in the ocean and on the beach, and was always comfortable. I wear a size 16W or 18 in pants and these in a 1X are plenty roomy, fit perfectly! I rarely if ever wear shorts, but these are so cute, I will wear shorts now. Very happy I bought them, so I grabbed a second color. Love both the gray and the black. Highly recommended!

Hello ladies! I am a solid size 14 (in bottoms). I am just shy of 5′ 7″ with a pear shape and athletic (fuller legs) body.
These board shorts fit me like a glove. The length is PERFECT, they do not rise on me when walking, which is I appreciate. The fabric is the perfect weight, and the adjust ability of the waist (it ties and has velcro too) was IDEAL to cinch in for my tinier waist.
I wish I had them the three times I traveled to Hawaii.
I did not have to go up a size. I stuck with the 14. They have a slight give and this was sufficient for my needs. So, I give a big thumbs up.

Too small in the butt, too wide on the legs. Nice length though. So many plus size shorts are cut too short. The waist and fly are a bizarre design. Why they have a criss cross shoe like drawstring and a velcro in the same spot is beyond me. The waist has a partial elastic waistband so a simple drawstring would’ve been better. The drawstring kept getting tangled with the velcro. I appreciate when companies try to fill the void in plus size clothing, but they often miss the mark with function and design. Here’s a tip – there is no point in making a fashionable fly drawstring area as most bigger people don’t tuck in their shirts nor wear short shirts as we are trying to cover our tummies. If you’re going to add a drawstring, put it on the inside so it doesn’t stick out and make a bump under our shirt.

Found these shorts here for a very reasonable price after searching on Torrid and other swimsuit sites at almost 3x the cost. They are very comfortable and very flattering. I feel confident when I wear to go swimming when we have company over! I otherwise dread going swimming! These are great because they go to my knees and cover parts of my body I am self conscious about. If you are like I am, I would highly recommend! Will be buying more next summer.

I rarely initiate a review however, this product really impresses me. I am on a weight loss program and was not sure what size to order based on previous reviews. Since I have always had to go larger with swim suits I ordered the 3X. It was miles too big (after 30 pounds of weight loss). I immediately requested an exchange because I loved the way the material felt. The new pair arrived in 24 hours! Just tried them on. Sooo comfortable. There is a tie and velcro at the front to adjust for slight more weight loss over the summer. The reach to just above the knees so they cover the ugly baggy thigh skin but do not impede bending the knee like some of the longer ones do. There is a pocket with velcro to put a key or sunglasses in. I tried it on with my bathing suit tops (that had a swim skirt that never was really comfortable) and it really is a nice fit in black. Slimming which makes you feel better as you loose the weight. Can’t wait to try them out in the pool.

These board shorts are exactly what I need! I’m not quite a 1X, but I bought that size for a little wiggle room. Fit is great, especially since you need to wear a tankini bottom under it since it does not have a liner. Ready to hot the beach for Thanksgiving!

I trusted the reviewers who said order up a size and got a 3X. I’m a 20W in Old Navy slacks with stretch, and probably closer to a 22W in other bottoms (because Old Navy tends to run large in plus size bottoms). I probably could have fit into the 2X, but it wouldn’t be pretty if I tried to sit down. My weight is fairly balanced throughout my body, though I probably have a slight pear shape (I’m a size smaller on top than on bottom). The 3X are perfect. I ordered another pair from Kanu that were the exact same style but had NO spandex in them (this version does). I have to say, I love the stretch version even more. So comfortable. I’m 6 feet tall and the inseam comes a few inches above my knee. A great length that won’t ride up.

I bought these for a snorkeling trip, and they are wonderful. They have pockets with velcro closures for small essentials you don’t want to leave on the beach, they don’t get heavy when you’re swimming, and they dry quickly. They do run a bit large. I ordered size 10, my usual pants size, and had to take them in at the waist. My next pair will be a size 8.

I’m 182 lbs and 5’4 . Ordered size 14 and they fit perfect. Do wish the material was a little thicker but its ok, I finally have a pair of shorts that are not so short. Its about an inch above my knee and when I sit its about 4 inches above my knee.Love them.

I feel these run large; I’m usually a 2 or 4 in bottoms, but in these a 0 was just perfect! I am 5’3″, 124.5 lbs., 27″ waist & 38″ hips if that helps. The fit couldn’t be better (just as pictured in the ad). Well-made board short with excellent coverage! I will say I didn’t wear in the water so not sure how they do but imagine they’d be super. The only feature I am not too excited about is the velcro at the waist closure, as it catches on the ties EVERY time you get in or out of the shorts and snags them. (Also can snag your swim top depending on what type of fabric it is.) Hurley makes a nearly identical board short (the Phantom 9″) that I feel hangs just a tad better and that has a snap at the waist instead of the velcro. The decision between the two was hard but I’ve decided to return the Kanu Surf shorts and keep the Hurley shorts. Other slight cons with these Kanu Surf shorts: the legs ride up on me if I am really super-active, and don’t come back down unless I pull them down. Also I am not really a fan of the cargo pocket but others will love that feature. 🙂

Though they were slightly on the larger side (and haven’t worn in the water just yet), they are breathable and comfortable, and don’t hug every little inch! A true board short! Thanks for giving us larger girls some options other than just too tight legging shirts that right up, when we want something a little modest yet stylish! Love them!

I ordered according to how I measured and their chart but I should have just ordered my normal size. Thankfully they were very fast in shipping out the smaller size and it came before my trip. The shorts are so comfortable and stretch with you rather than binding. I love these shorts!

Finally I found a pair of versatile cute shorts I can wear with my swim suit. I am 50ish and don’t like the way my legs look at the top anymore. I am 5’4 and about 145 pounds and I usually buy my swim suits a little large for the comfort. I ordered these shorts in a size 12 when normally I wear a 10 or an 8. I should have ordered a 10. I still love the shorts. They are super cute and comfy. I am waiting to receive another pair in the hot pink. They have the perfect amount of stretch too.

I’m a bit curvy, so I ordered a size up & added a couple of darts and now these are my favorite. if you are shaped more like a pencil they would fit fine.
also, the hook/loop fastener is oriented with the sticky side on the inside facing out – so it tends to grab the lace every time you change. my other similar shorts have the fastener facing the other way and it wasn’t a problem.
Honesty Counts –
I’m glad I bought these. They pair perfectly with Amazon Tankini – ” Firpearl Women’s Black Flowy Swimsuit Crossback Plus Size Tankini Top US12 Black”. Good purchase! Only one con: the pockets are not very deep and I wouldn’t trust storing anything in them. These Boardshorts fit just like the picture shows, with as much room around the thighs.
